Zlatan Ibrahimovic has agreed personal terms with Barcelona as he edges ever closer to joining the European champions from Inter Milan.
Barca had previously had an offer of €45m and Samuel Eto'o in exchange for the Sweden striker accepted by Inter but it was feared the deal could collapse over the players' respective wage demands.
Barca midfielder Alexander Hleb is also due to join Inter on loan, although he yesterday cast doubt on his part of the deal. Eto'o successfully concluded negotiations with Inter on Thursday and now Ibrahimovic has followed suit after flying to Europe from the United States, where Jose Mourinho's side are currently on tour.
Sunderland have signed Marseille captain Lorik Cana on a four-year contract in a deal worth more than £5m. The Albania midfielder becomes Black Cats boss Steve Bruce's third signing of the summer following the arrivals of Paraguay skipper Paulo Da Silva and Fraizer Campbell.
Meanwhile, Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp is waiting for developments in his efforts to sign former Arsenal midfielder Patrick Vieira from Inter.
Redknapp's priority at the moment is for cover at centre-back but he is also in the market for a midfielder and the club have made an enquiry to Real Madrid about Lassana Diarra.
"Patrick was someone I was interested in but I'm not sure where that's gone. It's not developed," Redknapp said.
